Local plans and calculations
Plan records are stored in IndexedDB in your browser. Modeling also runs client-side, on your device. Rest of the Road does not provide user accounts and does not keep a server-side database of plans.
- Browser saves stay with that browser profile. Other devices and browser profiles do not automatically receive them.
- Exports are files you control. If you download, open, or share a backup, its handling depends on where you save or send it.
- There is no account recovery copy. Clearing site data or deleting a local plan can remove the only browser copy.
Road Guide and OpenAI
Road Guide is optional and connects only when you activate it. If you use voice, your browser asks for microphone access and sends microphone audio, conversation transcripts, and selected plan context through LiveKit to the Road Guide agent and OpenAI so it can understand and answer your request.
When the live portrait is enabled, the generated Road Guide audio is also sent to Anam, which publishes synchronized audio and avatar video back through LiveKit. If avatar video is unavailable, the guide can continue with voice and a static portrait. Rest of the Road limits each live session, but provider usage begins when the session connects.
Do not activate Road Guide or type into its conversation if you do not want that information sent to OpenAI. Road Guide is not required to build, save, or run a plan.
OpenAI, LiveKit, and Anam control their own processing and retention practices. Review the OpenAI privacy policy, LiveKit privacy policy, and Anam privacy policy before using Road Guide.
Local plan storage and client-side modeling do not, by themselves, upload a plan to a Rest of the Road plan database. Activating Road Guide intentionally sends the audio, conversation, and selected plan data described above to external realtime services.
Analytics and performance measurement
The application includes Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. When those products are enabled for a deployment, Vercel processes aggregated page-usage and performance information. This can include the page path, referrer, broad location, device and browser information, and Web Vitals.
Rest of the Road removes query strings and page fragments before analytics collection. Its four product events contain only the event names guide to planner, plan start, intake complete, and verdict view; they include no event properties or plan values.
Analytics is separate from the planner's IndexedDB records and is not a server-side plan database. See Vercel's analytics privacy documentation for provider details.
Feedback form
When you submit the feedback form, Rest of the Road sends the feedback type, message, optional reply email, optional page URL, submission time, and basic browser information through Resend to a private project inbox. This information is used to understand and respond to product feedback.
Feedback is not joined to the planner's IndexedDB records. Do not include plan balances, account numbers, tax identifiers, or other sensitive financial or personal information. Resend and the destination email provider process the submitted message under their own privacy and retention practices.
Deleting local information
You can delete saved plans with the planner's local plan controls or clear this site's stored data in your browser. Exported backup files must be deleted wherever you chose to save them.
Because there are no accounts or server plan records, Rest of the Road cannot look up, recover, or remotely delete a plan stored in your browser. For a privacy question about the site itself, use the contact page without including plan values or other sensitive information.
Changes to this page
This page is updated when the product's data flows or service providers materially change. The date at the top identifies the latest substantive revision.
